Gout Health Forum

Please read this page before posting to the Gout Forum

2010 Update:
Gout Forum Guidelines are now updated on the main website.

The gout health forum is open to anyone who wants to ask questions about gout.

It’s a great place for gout sufferers (or their carers) to share their opinions and experiences about gout.

There are few rules – just please be respectful. This is not a place for self promotion, so no spamming please.

Before you post anything, please take a moment to read these guidelines.

Gout Forum Posting Guidelines

  • It does not matter if your question has been asked before. On the other hand, it pays to have a quick look to see if your question has already been answered. Firstly, you will not have to wait for an answer if it is already here. Secondly, it saves the valuable time of those fellow gout sufferers who are helping you.

If you want to find gouty answers quickly, please try this search:

  • Try to give as many facts as possible. If you give more information, you will get better replies. Important things are:
    • height
    • weight
    • uric acid level
    • how long you have had gout
    • medications you take
    • any other health conditions
  • This is an international forum, so please show units of measurement.
  • Remember that this forum is not run by medical professionals. We can explain some of your treatment options and advise you what questions to ask your doctor, but we cannot give medical advice. Gout is a serious medical condition for which you must seek treatment from your family doctor or a rheumatologist.
  • Use a meaningful subject line. Try to be as specific as possible in your subject box. This will attract more people who can help answer your question.
  • Forum Member Guidelines

You do not need to register as a member in order to post in the forum.

Unregistered guests will be asked for their name, email address and a human verification number each time they post. The verification number is a simple sum to indicate that you are a real visitor, rather than a computer script programmed to post unwelcome spam.
Registration is now required. It is completely free.

If you register as a member, all you need to type in, once you have logged in, is your message and a subject heading. The other benefits are:

    • Immediate posting – no need to wait for approval before your message appears. Message approval is a manual process that I try to do at least twice each day. Unfortunately, there are some days when I cannot get on the Internet, and approval might take a few days.
    • Post editing. Members can add to or change earlier posts.
    • You can subscribe to a topic – email notifications whenever anyone posts to a topic you are interested in.
    • Private messaging. Members can exchange private messages with other members.
