Take the allopurinol, but make sure it is being monitored properly.

You start with a low dose, and get frequent blood tests to adjust the dose so that uric acid level stays below 6mg/dL.

If you are not sure about this, please <a href="http://www.gout-pal.com/gout-pal-forum/gout-cures/" rel="nofollow">discuss your thoughts about allopurinol in the gout cures forum</a>.

i am right now suffering from gout in my left hand and some in my right hand. I also have peripheral neuropathy. I am not sue if I want to take allipurinal or not. The nurse praticioner did not give me some pain pills for the gout. Althogh last year my doctor in Albuquerque gavr me a prescription that stopped the pain and the emergency room gave me some type of shot that stopped the pain in minutes. What was it> I am not comfortablr with the nurse practicioner. She is a nice lady but from wat I am reading on line I am not sjure that taking it is a good idea. Shoul I consult with myh neurologist before i start takng it. Sincerely, Jackie

Rash is a common side-effect of allopurinol. That is one reason why dosage should start at 50-100 mg/day and increase every few weeks.

If you have been advised properly, your doctor will recommend an alternative uric acid lowering drug on your next visit, which should have been scheduled for a few weeks after your first visit.

If in doubt consult a rheumatologist.
