As a reader said when he heard I was adding a forum:
So come on everybody – get
forummingtalking!I found that after my sleep apnea was diagnosed and overcome, my long-term frequent gout attacks ceased completely. I also found to my great surprise that no doctors were aware of the connection, even though the medical journal references listed at my website make the connection very clear when just a dash of thinking is added.
I expect that readers of this post are most interested in curing their gout. But it is even more important for your long-term health and life expectancy to be sure that you don’t have sleep apnea. Unfortunately, most doctors do not routinely screen for sleep apnea, and they don’t know that your gout should trigger sleep apnea screening.
My great disappointment in the lack of attention to sleep apnea by most medical practitioners has induced me to author a book about sleep apnea for general readership. It will be published in a few weeks. The book describes in more detail than my website the connection of sleep apnea to gout, as well as many other consequences of sleep apnea. It also provides self-help suggestions for individuals to use to protect themselves and their loved ones from the perils of sleep apnea.
It’s not obvious dear readers, but you can visit Burton’s website by clicking on his name in comment #2.
Just to make sure you’ve got it it’s http://www.freewebs.com/goutcure/
I’ve been meaning to point you to this site for ages, but I have taken too long to summarize it.
Sorry, Burton.
Rather than wait for my summary, please look at Burton’s information and let me know what you think.
I for one have not knowingly slept on my back since I read it.
I was diagnosed with Gout when I was 23 years old. I am overweight now, but was not so much so back then. I did and still do have a large neck. The acute gout attacks became more and more frequent, starting two or three times a year and got to the point where I was having them twice a month in some bad months. I cut out all the bad foods that I love. I stopped eating beans, cut out red meat, no seafood or organ meats and stopped drinking beer. The doctor put me on allopurinol and I was still having attacks. I kept alleve on hand at all times and had a permanent prescription for indocine.
I got married and my wife may of saved my life and my feet!
I had never read any of these articles on linking sleep apnea and gout. My wife started complaining heavily about my snoring. I was also very tired ALL the time, and fell asleep behind the wheel and stuff. She told me if I did not get something done about the snoring she was putting me on the couch. I went to the doctor, he decided I needed a sleep study. My oxygen saturation dropped to 64% at one point during the study. Unlike Mr. Abrams I cannot treat my apnea with a tennis ball in my back, I have to wear a CPAP mask. However in the two years since I have had the CPAP I have not had a single gout attack (save one, which was on a night I did not use my mask!)
My experience may make believers out of others that read this site. If you have gout, get a sleep study done! It may save your life.
Is it ok to take allapurinal and tart cherry capsules at the same time?
Thank you for your comment, Mel.
There should be no problem taking both at the same time.
Note that when you take allopurinol, you must have regular blood tests to make sure that the dose is right. Uric acid levels will fluctuate, but average must be maintained below 6mg/dL to ensure that no more tophi form, and existing ones dissolve.
