Maybe the Black Soy are Heavy Duty- those able to finesse the South sea Turtle route are indeed fortunate- the rest are Mungers ;)

Hello Guys & Girls, I not had time to get in here for a while, but have been reading the posts! You guys are getting me confused with these different types of beans! My bags just say Black Beans – Product of Thailand…(Same Met found) … but I don’t know if they are Soy Beans or not… What I do know that they work…but also I agree with Met’s comment it is “mind over matter sometimes”… But this week I have “overdosed on Chicken” three times, (Pork never seems to bother me) … & feeling it now…albeit low level … but after several weeks of no swelling or throbbing/ twinges… it’s crying… I’m baaaaaack! ” /> I have to say with the diverse ethnic population of the UK, they are so hard to find there… perhaps it depends on the different regions? ” /> I certainly don’t remember them as a child growing up there. I know my American friends here are familiar with them in the US of A… as just Black Beans, but using them as American versions of Mexican dishes I think. My last few batches have included chopped up ginger root, I put in while simmering, it certainly gives more a kick to the finished juice!

Jim,
Nice to have you back!
The “Raitip” BB is black turtle. I have compared it side by side with black soybeans. The turtle bbs are smaller, shinier skin and the kernel is light brown, while the black soybeans have dull skin and the kernel is greenish. They also taste different and the broth look different. The turtle broth has sludge-like residue and taste earthy while the soy has a clearer broth and has a more palatable taste (to me).
I am still enjoying chicken, fish and all kinds of meat everyday and my gout has not returned, so far. Most importantly, I always remember is to indulge in “everything in moderation”.

One thing more on the soya beans, if you crack them open they are white/slightly yellow on the inside. Here is a picture of my bag/brand, and the beans with a few cut open so you see:

It will be interesting to see if you come up against any import restrictions J.
If not, and you can get some OK , much further interest in your comparisons between the two types.
I thought you were acting for Hubby here- but it seems you're a Gout sufferer also?

I took pictures to show the differences between black soybeans and black turtle beans but did not know how to post the pics here.
My “avatar” is the pic of the black soybeans that I have been using. They are slightly more than 10mm and a bit roundish. The kernels are greenish in colour (as shown). The Raitip black beans from Thailand are smaller (10mm or less) and slightly elongated. The kernels are white in colour. The black bean that dp14 shared(http://gallery.me.com/dp14#100549) has a brownish kernel.
Honestly, I am now utterly confused!!!! Other than the black soybeans that I am using I am not sure what exactly the other “black beans” are, as they are all labelled only as “black beans”. However, I do know that the black soybeans are from the “East” while the black turtle beans are from the “West”.
Most importantly, whatever I am using works very well for me!!!!

Thanks, GP.
At last, I managed to get my photos pasted! This is only a trial – to show the black soybean and Raitip Black beans (not too sure whether it's black turtle beans). Both were taken side by side to allow for better comparison).

Metamorph you are a genius.
I tried your BBB (2 cups worth of broth) just last night when I felt a painful twinge signaling an onset and eureka–this morning the pain has subsided a bit (down to about 50%). This is not achievable by colchicine (at least for me) when I would have at least taken the magic 2 + 1 every hour and go even as far as supplementing with 400 mg of celebrex.
This morning I downed another cuppa the BBB and now (11AM) pain is gone. nada. zilch.
Thanks bro and more power.

Thanks, but I am certainly not a genius. I learnt about BBB from a website I happened to come across when I was desperate. I only came up with the recipe, based on a few trials and choosing the most effective.
I am glad that BBB works for you exactly the way it had worked for me – 3 gulps and the pain and inflammation were gone! Hope it does the same to many other gout sufferers too.
Cheers.

Momoy, may I know the type of black beans you used. Black soybeans or black turtle beans?

Momoy,
Some of our gout friends from the western countries are having problems finding black soybeans. Just in case you are from area, may you could let us know your source of supply.

@met—just got to look at the pictures and just to correct the Black soyabeans I get is more of the “thai” type–though I refer to them as Chinese since I purchase them in the nearby chinatown district for $2.50 a kilo. Anyone who would be interested in this–I can certainly send you some except shipping costs might be too high . I live in Manila, Philippines by the way where I can get these beans by the bucketloads.

Thanks, Momoy.
Even if it's the “thai” type your feedback is very useful as it goes to show that it also works as effectively as the black soybeans. $2.50 (US$ ?) a kilo is not expensive.
I am still not sure whether the “thai” type is the same as black turtle bean, though it idefinitely looks different from the black soybeans.

I reckon that it's 95% certain that the Thai bean are Black Turtle beans [ or Common, P. Vulgaris] by looking at the pics above.
They may be less effective than Soy, but easier to get.
Maybe Soy type are limited in the West as they are commonly used for oil or feed production- and thus 'by- products' , rather than food sources.
This may have issues like pollution and pesticide use associated, but in the irregular amounts used and lack of reporting, this is something for the notebook.
I think that if the Common Black Turtle bean does the trick , then that is fine to use.
If you need to experiment more, then use the Soy version with caution -with regard to supplier.

Which one should I use? I have access to these two varieties. Packet B contains smaller beans compared to packet A. Both packets are labelled as black beans.
So A or B? I could technically mix and use both together.
