would changing my diet to a more vegetarian diet help out.. Not 100%
vegetarian, I mean as to eating lots of salads and fruits and minute
amounts of meats(mostly chicken)

I am also looking to try the cherry idea.. I will do just about anything to get rid of this.

I would advise a lot of black cherry juice (whole foods)  and a lot of water. Has been useful to me so far. Lean meats. Low sugars and fats. Try celery seed extracts. Ibuprofen if pain comes on- worked well for me.

Don't get too hung up on food. The most significant thing is to just eat enough to maintain body weight in the low normal BMI range. Also, eating smaller meals more frequently might help.

Meat should be balanced with plenty of fruit and veg – not avoided completely. Also, be careful about iron intake as it's easy to get too much with so many fortified foodstuffs around.

For many gout sufferers, that's enough, but if your gout is really severe, then you need allopurinol to keep the uric acid down. You can then eat whatever you like, but should still eat sensibly to avoid other health issues.
