Pepto Bismol is a brand of Over The Counter (OTC) medicine to treat diarhea, upset stomach and nausea. It's active ingredient is bismuth subsalicylate.

Though I can find no specific studies regarding bismuth and gout, drugs.com does warn:

The salicylate in this medicine may worsen the gout and make the medicines taken for gout less effective

Specific medicines mentioned that a gout sufferer might take include: Probenecid (e.g., Benemid); Sulfinpyrazone (e.g., Anturane); Diclofenac (e.g., Voltaren); Ibuprofen (e.g., Motrin); Indomethacin (e.g., Indocin).

In general terms, if you have a medical condition, especially if you are taking any prescription medication, you must be very careful of any non-prescription drugs (as well as herbal remedies and diet supplements). It is much better to check with your doctor first. Not only can you avoid potentially harmful drug interactions, but you might be able to get a more effective treatment.

Probably as a result of that “subsaliciylate” which is another formulation of aspirin. Low dose aspirin retards the excretion of uric acid.
