From Hypertension journal in August this year: Allopurinol Initiation and Change in Blood Pressure in Older Adults With Hypertension
Over 6,000 patients, aged over 65 were studied, including 365 allopurinol takers. Comparing allopurinol takers with controls, the study records an average fall in systolic blood pressure of 2.1mm Hg, and an average fall in diastolic blood pressure of 1.7mm Hg.
There was a trend toward greater fall in BP in the high-dose allopurinol group, but change in BP was not related to baseline uric acid level. Allopurinol use is associated with a small fall in BP in adults.
