My husband had an MI on 21/10/08. He has been taken off Diclofenac sodium and now has no gout treatment as GP says not safe after heart attack. His latest bout of gout in right ankle started 25/10/08 and is still raging and I am fighting with him to get him mobile because of the heart atack. GP only prescribing paracetamol, which is no good at all. I am following a low purine diet for him, to no avail. If there is anyone out there in similar curcumstances, PLEASE HELP.
For readers unfamiliar with the term GP, it means General Practitioner - the most common term for a family doctor or primary care physician in the UK.
As in all countries, general practitioners rarely have the specific training and up-to-date knowledge of the latest best practice for gout. This is especially true when gout patients also suffer from other conditions.
It is vital that you seek advice from a rheumatologist who understands complex gout.
As I've mentioned earlier, to another UK based reader, if you cannot get a suitable referral from your doctor, and you have no success with my Find A Rheumatologist page, ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
