I have a severe gout attacks on the past, but i now seem to manage this quite well through diet and exercise now. How ever I just had an attack and can only put it down possibley to work related stress. Whilst the attack is not severe I cannnot seem to shift it completely even though I am taking the indomethcin. Any suggestions as I am back at work if the stress is the cause could this be ongoing whilst i am back at work
I wrote about gout and stress over a year ago, and I still haven't found any conclusive proof.
I have noticed a few things about work in general that often do not help gout.
If I sit for long periods, I tend to get more gout attacks in the ankles and knees. I put this down to restricted blood flow. Try to keep feet and legs moving (airline type exercises help). Try to find excuses for walking around more - keep things you use regularly further away.
When I'm working, I often forget to drink water regularly. Dehydration is a major cause of gout attacks. Drinking regularly also helps with point 1, as you walk to get water, then walk again to get rid of it.
Events at work can often lead to irregular eating patterns. Little and often is always best when it comes to food for gout sufferers. Avoid long periods without food, and avoid overeating when you do get a break.
