Latest UA reading 6.2(200mg allo/day) down from 6.7(100mg allo/day). Increase allopurinol from 200mg/day to 300mg/day. Plan to take a colchicine morning and night in hopes that I can continue my workout routine and tennis on the weekends. I did not start preventative colchicine after allo increase from 100mg to 200mg and had to deal with a 36 hour flare – hope to avoid that this time.

One question on dosing – my allo tabs are 100mg – so I have been taking two in the morning. I plan to go to two in the morning and one in the evening – provided the pharmacist doesn’t call me with a 300mg tab script. Is there a timing recommendation?

My Doctor also asked me to return for labs in 6 weeks…. we know that’s not gonna work for me, so I’ll report back in two-three weeks.

    Best All,

    Luke

Luke! You’ve made my day. I love it when the gout beast gets a kicking.

Because of the way allopurinol works, there is no advantage to splitting the dose. You can do it if it feels right for you, but it won’t make much difference to uric acid control. A single 300mg allopurinol is more convenient, but it’s your call.

I’m looking forward to your next update. Let’s open a book on it. I’m going for the obvious 5.7mg/dL
