After my 9.7 SUA my doctor is putting me on AP 300mg/day. That reading was 3-4 weeks ago. I think Zip said I should get another test for confirmation. Is that necessary before I start AP? Also my recent attack started 8 days ago. I am walking now with very little pain. Almost back to normal. My Dr. agrees not to start AP during an attack. He said wait 3 to 4 days. Just wanted to know what you Pros think about the timing with AP.

Pros?  there's not even a price list… ;)

If things have settled down I would just give the AlloP a burn.

SUA moves about quite a bit anyway- and a reading after you start would be more useful unless you get your own meter for monitoring progress and trimming doseage etc. Good luck on it!

turkey,

That 3-4 weeks ago should be good enough for a baseliine SUA. Start taking the allopurinol and get another blood test a month later to see if your numbers are good.

If you have about 30 colchicine on hand (Rx needed, so call your doctor,) that will get you through any flare-ups…but many of us never had any downside to starting allopurinol.

For the first couple weeks try to go very light on fish, organ meats, and beer and drink plenty of water.

Have plenty of colchicine. My wife has me on a strict diet. No meat or beer among other things. Which meter do you recommend. I recall a Kernel, UASure, ect. Thanks for you advice. I will get the lab test in a few weeks, then monitor at home regularly.

Result !

I would practice getting a good result as it takes a few stabs- though Chlorestrol is the harder one to do, if you use it .     [Needs about 4X the blood @ 5mm 'across blob']

Then you can gauge the accuracy of your meter/ technique against the Lab test.

Obvious, I know -but it can creep up on a body! Cool

I'm not a meter kind of guy, turkey…unless the tester equipment comes down in price A LOT. But others here have a lot of experience with them.

I just picked up my AP from pharma. 100mg tabs 3 times a day. I thought it would be 1 300mg tab a day. Does it make any differance?
