I am 34 and suffered from attacks off and on for the past 6 years.  I find this site very helpful!  My uric acid is at 8.0 before Christmas.  Since then, I have eliminated all alcohol and meat from my diet.  I feel much better.  My doctor has prescribed me 300mg Allo.  I have picked it up and am ready to take it.  I know it has been recommended on this site to start with a lower dose.  I also take ActosMet (smallest dosage).  I really want to eliminate all deposits and my doctor said this is the way to go.  Please chime in!

Seems a bit strange to go 6 years with gout and then make substantial changes 'to the good' and drop straight into long term therapy, after one reading.

Other factors may be missing from your history?

If you are happy with this- then go ahead, but another UA test could be helpful to check progress and help make you more positive about your course of action -which seems to be causing some doubt.

A slow start has been suggested here to many on AlloP of 100mg/day, for a week, to check side effects- that is something else worth considering, before driving up to the regular dose.

Not to worry. Take the 300 mg. daily and watch the first couple days for itching, especially hives or any swelling of the lips or eyelids. All these are signs of a sensitivity reaction/angioedema and are cause to discontinue the drug.

Absent these rather uncommon side effects, you will likely never be bothered again.

Don't fiddle with a lower dose, you'll just increase the risk of flare-ups.

Give it a month without pain and you can ease your dietary restrictions with a nice Bouef Bourguinon and a nice claret to wash it down.
