What is the latest news on colchicine IV.  It was pulled from the market last year, due to several deaths caused by one manufacturer located in Texas releasing batches that were 8 times the required strength.  But it was the only way that I could manage my pseudogout without stomach problems.  I have been using Celebrex to hold the flare ups at bay for about 2 years, as well as colchicine oral (two .6 mg pills a day for a couple of days), but just had a endoscopy, and the Dr informed me to take a holiday from my meds, or suffer the results.  Is there a lab that is going to open up with the colchicine IV that will be FDA approved.

benjamin,

I'm not well versed on either pseudogout or the problem with the IV colchicine. But let me say that IF you are taking two drugs and you develop a symptom it is often hard to pinpoint which is causing it (or both.)

Oral colchicine, although it can cause severe INTESTINAL difficulty is not likely to cause stomach damage. Celebrex, like all NSAIDS, on the other hand is often the cause of gastritis or stomach ulceration. Talk to your doctor about using JUST the colchicine and hope he hasn;t been brainwashed by the “Celebrex NEVER causes problems” school of pharmacology. IF you have frank ulceration, I hope your doctor did a biopsy for Helicobacter pylorii while he was in there with the scope.

Geez, intravenous colchicne sounds like a VERY tough regimen to adhere to. How often does one need to get “filled up?”
