This is how to get your own Uric Acid Test meter.
You can order a gout monitoring kit from Arctic Medical, which comes with testing strips. You need one strip for each test. They are not reusable, but they are quite cheap. You should order at least one extra pack of strips at the same time. If you are as enthusiastic as me about testing your uric acid level, you will use them quite quickly, especially when you first get it.
The unit is very easy to use, and the kit includes everything you need to perform your own tests, except perhaps for a paper towel to wipe your finger after testing. The test is painless and very quick.
Be sure to wash and dry hands thoroughly before use.
These units ship from Arctic Medical all over the world. Prices shown include UK sales tax (VAT), but this will not be applied if you order from outside Europe.

There are several discussions about home uric acid testing on this forum. Use the search box near the top of this page to find them. Relevant search words are 'uasure', 'home uric acid test', and 'uric acid monitor'
There are also some discussions on the Kernel uric acid meter. Though some find it useful, the general consensus is that this particular uric acid test meter is not as reliable as the UAsure from Arctic Medical. If you do want to try it, it is distributed from the UK by Trevithick Holdings Ltd.

Arctic Medical have introduced free shipping to the UK. US standard shipping is £12.50 (about $20).
They have also introduced a Starter Kit significant savings on top of the discounts introduced earlier this year. This means that a meter test kit with extra test strips and lancets, delivered to California, and most other US States (I haven't checked them all), is £75.02, which is around $116.
From what I have discovered so far about lab tests, this gives you 30 tests for the price of approximately 3 lab tests, though I haven't figured how health insurance might affect this. Subsequent tests will be cheaper, as you only need to buy test strips, and the occasional box of lancets.
I'd appreciate your views on the cost aspects, or any other aspects, of uric acid testing.
