The one thing I've learned about gout is that what triggers an attack
for one person will not necessarily cause problems for someone else.
Since I've stopped all beer and cold-cuts and switched to fresh meats
such as chicken, pork or beef, my symptoms have subsided. I am still a
moderate drinker but no more than two Vodkas a day.
Regarding Cherry supplements I take black cherry capsules 250 mg, three
or four times a day, along with a host of other vitamins. I tried
shrimp this past Good Friday and the result was not good despite the
cherry supplements, but the duration was shorter and not as painful. I
guess shell-fish is still a no-no. I did have lobster several months
earlier with no ill effect, so I still question specific elements of
this disease.
One last mention of allopurinol, if it is started very gradually with
colchicine, there is less of a chance of triggering an attack. I can't
take it as it causes acute migraines. I hope this helps someone.
