I am starting a new thread here, thanks to Trev who opened the door for me:

Colchicine is not just a painkiller it is an immune supressor by function and pretty damn powerful. These medics! She can well 'blink' -and later worry about the competition including us here

It has crossed my mind several times during the last two weeks if there wasn't/isn't a way to make this FORUM a more official, universally accepted “Voice” for only, and ONLY, GOUT.

GoutPal has done a tremendous job in establishing and maintaining this forum and keeping it at an ethical level that very few forums can claim.

The knowledge, experiences, compassion, honesty, wealth, opinions and much more which have been shown and shared HERE are unmatched, in my opinion, by any other “institution” on this planet. One particular reason it is unmatched: Above mentioned qualities, traits, and values were/are given and shared WITHOUT asking anything in return; are given to help and to build, not to destroy (except GOUT); are given to add and to improve, not to cheat and deceive. No one asks for recognition, for fame and glory, for money or material values in return. No one claims to know it all. (Mother Nature sees to that and She lets us know: LOUD and CLEAR!)

There is ample prove in the many posts on this forum how much people with gout have been helped HERE and had gotten little or no help from the so-called “professional establishment”.

Three important factors/qualities this forum has provided:

    1) Questions answered by people who know (not read about it in books or been “taught” by people who didn't know themselves)

    2) Almost Immediate Response. No weeks or even months waiting time to see, get advice from a “professional”.

    3) No Insurance/Money required to pay up-front before one gets to see the “professional”.

How are we going about it to achieve this goal??? I DO NOT KNOW! (Yet) However, I am talking to the WHOLE WORLD here, literally. There got to be someone or several people on this forum who may have an idea, thought, input how WE can do it.  (While you are in gout pain, to get your mind off that, put your thinking cap on and think, dream about a solution, please!!!)

I think GP understands the challenge and neglect around gout Hans!

I get the impression from a comment Keith made earlier that alot of interest is taken in this site by the medical establishment [Probably from the trafffic]

I sincerely hope they take a lot of note- as with the pain of gout being VERY seriously underestimated by them, it's only a matter of time before it filters through.

The medics mostly go into the job as a calling- it's not something everyone would, or could do well – if at all. Certainly, it takes a lot of 'doing' over a lifetime, to heal others.

My personal hope is that much insight and coping can be garnered here in both the management and treatment of 'Big G' at the personal level -and that pressure will  remorselessly build for a more enlightened approach by the medical establishment including Govt and Pharma!  Cool

Trev, if you don't mind, I beg to differ from you. 30, 40, 50, 100 years ago, perhaps and probably. But today, particularly here, in these United States of America, I dare claim that 90-95% pick that job to make easy money, make lots of it, and make it fast. And if it wasn't for the crooked judicial system, they would make even more. I may be a cynic, but I think I see the reality clearer (as a non-born American) than most Americans care to do  and care to admit.

Hans, you are right- there's a difference in our sytems certainly.

For all it's failings the NH service here does support a very good GP system which many people are happy with.

The 'bottom line' isn't such a driver as in the States.

I think your politicians are frightening the voters with similar potential costs in the new bill proposed.

My favourite 'beef' is big Pharma grabbing the reins in many ways with their big Biz approach to health.

There are many out to reduce free choice in so many ways these days. Medics are not that bad, generally – just human!

Voters , [Us !] let the devils get away with it when they set the ground rules- IMO for medics also…

It is all relative and rather subjective. there's not a lot of money in gout.

    Bottom line?

Trev, you got it right. I agree 100%. As I had said in one of my first postings: Between the Pharma, the crooked politicians in their pocket, and gov't branches like the FDA, e.g. under their control, and the greedy lawyers, the average American  is more than just between a stone and a hard rock, he/she doesn't stand a chance. That's the way I see it.

A massive thank you to Hans for starting this topic, but first may I respond to a comment in the Black Bean Broth topic

Congratulations, Keith you have done a great service to mankind – especially all Gout Sufferers.  We simply hopped onto your bandwagon and share the Fruit of your Labour and bask in glory of your SUCCESS.

Now, I fully appreciate this, and I am truly heartened by it, but I cannot take the praise alone. I must especially mention zip2play, who miraculously arrived here during a personally difficult time for me. Without his selfless (totally unasked for) and humor-filled responses, I doubt I could have carried on.

More recently, several other people have continued to help others. I do not want to list names, because I will inevitably forget someone. The strength of this forum is because so many of you are willing to join in in the way that Hans has said.

Even the many people who ask questions help us all – who hasn't learned something from checking a fact or trying to put ourselves in anothers situation? I learn everyday because of the questions and experiences from all contributors.

There have been several times in my life when I have seen at first hand how leaving things to the professionals has led to poor quality of life. One thing I have learned is that the more professional someone becomes, the less likely they are to be helpful. We have proved that the best gout help comes from the people who live with it.

I'm inspired by Hans' words. I believe that what we need is more of the same. Just as the “go gently” approach is good for gout, I think the “grow gently” approach is best for this forum. I'm putting some effort into gradual reorganization – what has grown haphazardly is now getting a better structure. This attracts more visitors, but what makes people stay and learn, what makes people think and return, is you guys.

Every time you respond to someone here, more people see the helpfulness, and they are encouraged to contribute. First with questions, but then with advice and support. It is a wonderful thing to see, and be part of. The diversity of views is very special, and I feel that this is only achivable through continuing natural growth.

There are, I feel, some practical things that can be done to help achieve Hans' dream of a universally accepted voice for gout. I recently mentioned, almost in passing, a Gout Management Plan that would essentially be an agreement between doctor and patient on how the different phases of gout would be managed. It is vital that such a plan covers the collective fears and experience of all of us. There are several regulars who are reporting excellent progress in gout treatment. I need to collect this wisdom as a form of best practice, so fellow gouties can easily see what they need to do, and why they need to do it.

Anyone can contribute by reporting the clear practical steps that they took to help their gout, and the pitfalls they had to avoid on the way.

I guess before that, I need to return to Hans' final question, “How are we going about it to achieve this goal?” First, I think, we need to be clear what that goal is. Earlier this year, I restated the purpose of Gout Pal Interactive as “To provide news about gout, and to allow gout sufferers and their carers to ask questions, and share experiences and opinions, about gout.”

Perhaps that is a little bland and maybe needs evangelizing. Any suggestions?

GotPal, now , YOU did to me.Cry And, I am NOT ashamed of it. It clears the sight of my eyes.

Even though I don't believe in a god, and whatever goes with it (but that is another story, not to be discussed here) I wish to cite an endearment for millions around the globe that might well fit you and several people on this forum:

You could be looked upon as year-around Santa Claus, and several others, like, zip2play, bev, metamorph, phofab, Utubelite, thaijim as one of your rein-deer.

They have been pulling your sled(forum) and dropping off your and their little gift packages(advice, encouragement, admonishments, etc.) at children's(gout suffers'  homes,) regardless of time, effort and personal inconveniences( like gout flares, gout attacks, gout twinges, etc.)

    How about  this……

I have a small hunting and fishing lodge, ( 7 hours north of Toronto ) can cook up a storm and would be happy to host the very first International Gout Suffers  Forum ….

Send Santa Claus to pick me and my boat up and take me to your lodge. I'll bring the home brew and home-made wine.Wink

I am definitely not one of the reindeers. I am just hitching a ride on GP's sled and dishing out black bean broth to whoever needs it. Smile

Hey, you guys, if you aren't the rein-deers, who in hell is going to pull GP's sled?Confused He has his hands full of just controlling it. Yell

There are more than enough rein-deers pullng GP's sled and the number is ever increasing!

I am only taking a ride on the sled and enjoy every moment of it because of all the wonderful people I meet and the knowledge I acquired along the way.

I came in with one and only thing to share – BBB cure for gout.  Now after almost one year I have learnt much more about Gout. I am deeply impressed by the profound knowledge and wisdom of “several regulars who are reporting excellent progress in gout treatment“.

Now, GP's sled has gone into “auto mode” – just as GP had mentioned:

“Every time you respond to someone here, more people see the helpfulness, and they are encouraged to contribute. First with questions, but then with advice and support. It is a wonderful thing to see, and be part of. The diversity of views is very special, and I feel that this is only achivable through continuing natural growth.”

This is the kind of spirit unique only to GoutPal Interactive!

Happy journey to one and all!

Sorry hans, if I had sounded too serious. It's not meant to be that way, though. Perhaps, that is something about myself that I need to be conscious about and make an effort to avoid being so.

A good example of “occupational hazard”.

That's OK, Metamorph. Do I know about “occupational hazard”? You bet!. Just hang in there till you get to be my age or before and and hopefully you regain your humor way earlier than I did.Cool

Persistence and resilience, as well as humour, are needed in 'Big G' hunting country  ðŸ˜‰ and Mets has shown his 'mettle' on this one. Sorry about that 😉

I shall be cracking open some vintage BBB from the freezer- as with my niggles increasing again will need to knock them back a touch!

Once I get the Ph kit (ordered  now) – I will try and gauge the effect of BBB on acidity, but I don't care either way, so long as the potential flare is cut down.

I have a good country walk planned soonish 🙂

With due respect to GP – I was merely doing my part in upholding the true spirit of Gout Pal Interactive – as a Friendly Gout Sufferer. SmileSmile
