Indo & AP

[Gouch]

 I have  gout in my ankle for the last 3 weeks I have been taking indomecin as my UA was 7.7, but was told by my Dr. not to take AP (100 mg 2x daily) until my ankle swelling has subsided. The problem is my ankle is swollen at the end of the day for the last 3 weeks and the pain won't go away. So do I take the AP with the indomecin or take more indo.( I take 50 mg of  indo 3x a day.)

Additionally I take Lopressor for hypertension.

Indometthacin is a decent but not great drug  for gout pain and 3 weeks is enough of a trial of it's effectiveness, or lack thereof.

Ask your doctor to call in an Rx for colchicine. It works quickly and is gout specific.

(I think 300 mg. allopurinol is a better place to start when the attack subsides and there is NEVER a need to take your allopurinol in 2 doses…once a day is perfectly fine.)

 Your UA of 7.7 isn't too awful and you should get the attacks to stop pretty quickly once you get on allopurinol.

Please can I clarify. Is the allopurinol new to you, or were you taking it before your latest gout attack?

I'm curious too. I did my post on the assumption that Gouch had NEVER taken the allopurinol but if indeed he DID and was taken OFF it at the inception of the attack, then his doctor made a huge mistake in judgement (he said as kindly as possible.)

Well, I didn't want to jump to conclusions, but as it has happened many times before, I thought I'd ask.

And if our worst fears are confirmed, why be kind? I'd say criminal negligence rather than mistake in judgement.
